The pair performed together a little during the war, but war service was a priority, and so Eric joined the Merchant Navy. He and Ernie didn’t have much contact until 1946, meeting again by chance while performing in Swansea. The two joined forces, and were an inseparable and incomparable double act from then until Eric’s early death.
The two of them performed in many television shows, but never forgot their roots in music hall, both in terms of their performances and the fact that they brought a old friend from those days into the cast.
Eric was posthumously voted to be the funniest person in the twentieth century, and Morecambe and Wise the duo were named as the fourth best comedy pair, by comedians in 2005.
